Alltsen jag skars ut ur vassen en gång

gråter nu kvinnor och män till min sång.

 

Jag önskar ett bröst som är slitet itu

att lyssna till sången om ensamhet nu.

 

Alla som dröjer långt bort från sin grund

önskar till ursprunget vända all stund.

 

Folk av var slag har jag klagat inför

höga som låga på flöjtvisan hör.

 

Alla i tron kommer till mig som vän

men ingen har sökt i mig hemligheten.

 

Långt ifrån sorgen kan gåtan ej föras

men ej kan den ses och ej kan den höras.

 

Själen med slöja ej skiljs från sin kropp

men aldrig att själen för ögat låts opp.

 

Skriet i flöjten är eld, ej av vind

liv utan eld är att famla runt blind.

 

Kärlekens eld hörs i vassflöjten ljuda

kärlekens kraft ses i vinglaset sjuda.

 

Flöjten med den utan vän går i lag

den river slöjan för Herrens behag.

 

Flöjten har gift liksom motgiftet sett

älskaren och den han älskar så hett.
