FN fastslår: slöjförbud bryter mot religionsfriheten

I ett beslut från FN:s kommitté för mänskliga rättigheter anser man att slöjförbudet mot niqab – en heltäckande slöja med öppning för ögonen – i Frankrike bryter mot religionsfriheten.
Detta står i strid mot Europadomstolens beslut från 2014 som å andra sidan inte anser att förbudet bryter mot religionsfriheten.
Lagen infördes i Frankrike 2010 under dåvarande president Nicholas Sarkozy och andra länder som följt i samma spår är Österrike, Danmark och Belgien.

Frankrike menar att lagen är nödvändig av säkerhetsmässiga skäl och sociala aspekter. Däremot anser FN:s kommitté att lagen kan ha motsatt effekt där kvinnor istället begränsas till hemmet och därmed inte kan få tillgång till offentlig service.
Två personer bötfälldes 2012 i Frankrike för att ha burit niqab och Frankrike är nu förpliktigade att följa FN:s rekommendationer och handla i god tro säger en av kommitténs medlemmar, rapporterar TT.
